Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes. Yeasts convert the sugars in the grapes into alcohol, and the natural chemical balance of the grapes is what determines the final alcohol content of the wine. Wine has been produced for thousands of years, and the science of viticulture (grape-growing) and oenology (wine-making) has evolved a great deal over that time.

There are many different types of wine, and they can be broadly classified into red wine, white wine, and rosé wine. Red wine is made from dark-coloured grapes, white wine is made from white or green grapes, and rosé wine is made from red grapes that have had very little contact with their skins.

The colour of a wine is not always a good indicator of its type, as white wine can be made from red grapes (such as Pinot Noir), and red wine can be made from white grapes (such as Chardonnay). The type of grape is a better indicator of the colour of the wine.

Wine is produced all over the world, and the climate and geography of a region have a big impact on the types of grapes that are grown there, and therefore the type of wine that is produced.
